Žižkov = beer paradise..

I. Beer Rally   /10.4.2006/

BR The first Beer Rally was held in April 2006. Although there was no prior promotion of this event, 40 exchange and 2 Czech students participated. Together, they formed 8 teams. Participants had to go to some of the 14 pubs, drink a beer or a shot in order to get a stamp on their game card. Each guy had to collect 8 stamps, each girl 5 stamps. The jury (jury was established to compare game cards and appoint the winner) was waiting for the winners at the finish line - pub Morava. To everyone's surprise, a girl team won. (2 Czech girls, team called Dream team) They came to the finish line only in 2 hours and collected 9 stamps each. In the end, happy but exhausted girls sang their victory song "We are the champions" to the whole pub. After this song, all participants were banned for 2 months from entering the pub. Due to lack of practice, half of the exchange students didn't even make it to the finish line.

II. Beer Rally   /19.10.2006/

BR II After the success of the first Beer Rally, we wanted even more people to enter the competition. Therefore, large promotion was done. We were hanging flyers all over the walls of VSE, we were having power point presentations during the famous Nation2Nation parties and we even put ads on the internet (Borec, Lexikon hospod, Nation2Nation). Our expectations were exceeded. Almost 90 students came and together with the jury, there were 100 people participating in BR. Exchange students formed half of the crowd. There were altogether 20 teams with following names: Střízlíci, Akční výbor, Ubriaconi, Kluci z trpaslíka, Asistent Team, Chinese, Burčáci, Drinkers, Cholerolepra, Mufloni, Satým, Páles, Uppsala, Lumberjacks, Wicked, Bianca, Hybridi, Beerbelly, Skeletekers a Ožralí diplomati. And what about the results? The girl-power won again. This time it was a Spanish team called " Bianca". They managed to reach the finish line in only 48 minutes - which is an absolute record. Bianca team got the first prize, which was a 5 liter barrel of Staropramen.

III. Beer Rally   /19.4.2007/

BR III This year we were wondering if the number of participants will exceed one hundred. And it did. Altogether, there were 101 participants forming 23 teams with following names: Úchyláci, Růžové pralinky, Sedmilháři, Big Mac Drinking, Goldiggers, Kaliči, Rock, The Champions, Maracaibo, Still Water, Eurasian coopertion, Čechoslováci, Kluci z trpaslíka, Masakr I., Rozalina, German, Tequila!, Team Cool, Team Fried Cheese, Day and Day, International Drinking Team, My a Minutu před. Teams were starting anytime between 7 and 8 p.m. and we were timing them until they reached the finish line. The first three teams to complete the race were by coincidence the first three teams to start it. The winning team was a team of four called "Ruzove Pralinky" They managed to reach the finish line in absolutely shortest time of all previous BR - 32 minutes. "Uchylaci" finished as second and the third were "Sedmilhari" (41 minutes). 20 teams reached the finish line and that made only 3 who didn't. The first prize was again a 5 liter barrel of beer, which was opened and finished on the spot. Price for the second winning team was BR T-shirts. They became very popular, so the organizers had to promise to make extra ones for other participants. Team "Kluci z trpaslíka" got a bonus shot because of their perpetual participation. To sum it up, BR was excellent again.

IV. Beer Rally   /6.12.2007/

BR IV The fourth Beer Rally was a testing one. We made a new rule and that is to drink only beer and no shots. This rule was applied only to the Czech teams and it turned out to be a great success. At first, we were afraid that there wont be too many woman team members because of their dislike of beer, but we were wrong. For the next Beer Rally the rules will be unified and all of the participants will be allowed to drink only beer during the competition. Beer Rally will become a 100 % BEER Rally :) Now lets hear the statistics of the fourth Beer Rally: There were altogether 140 participants divided into 33 teams. That is much more than the last time. There were 21 pubs to go to. Here are the names of teams: Růžové pralinky, Kozlíci a Kozičky, Buddy System, Stip, Ganza, Aegee, Na zdraví, AK47, Feliz Naridad, Kluci z trpaslíka, Termine, Sexy bonbonky, Humr vole, VČNK (Velký Čínský Novoroční Koncert), Fucking Spanish, Team Canada, GDA Jane, Jsme Panici, Ma Ti Piglia, Vltavíni, Whatever, Mište, Puta Team, Céčkaři, Lamy, East Coast, Ó Ty Varane, Sockomani, Čajíčkáři, Los Bandoleros, Freaks, Primátoři. The winners of the "international/shot" game were Freaks. They were at the finish line after only 35 minutes. The other winners - of the real BEER Rally were AK47 - a trio from the Czech Republic. They finished in 72 minutes. The winners got a 5 litre barrel of beer and T-Shirts with the Beer Rally logo. The finish line was at the Luis Cyphre pub, which was very busy that night. Lets say that there was even a violation of the silent hours. Lets see how wild the next Beer Rally is and if the upward trend of participants continues.

V. Beer Rally   /6.3.2008/

BR Fifth Beer Rally enjoyed a pretty nice weather without rain, new final pub and mainly the definitive change of the rules – no stamps for shots any more. It makes the competition the true BEER Rally forever :) But the most amazing thing was the number of participants – unbelievable 295 competitors. We hoped to exceed 100 participants, but this was something nobody even dreamt of. In total, there were 58 teams running around Zizkov (yes, they WERE running :). The competition is becoming really tough and with time over one hour there is almost no chance to win. This year winners are The Intoxicated Pinguins – they finished in 38 minutes and created the new Beer Rally record. The team Last Team (54 minutes) finished as second followed by GB Nation (59 minutes). The complete list can be found here. Without any doubt the Beer Rally is the most challenging event organized by Buddy System – 131 participants didn’t make it to the final pub. We all hope there are OK and found their way back home. But even without almost half of the participants the final Belzepub was almost to explode and we welcomed the Czech Police again. It’s becoming a nice tradition :) And that is it. We survived the next Beer Rally, we enjoyed it even more than before and we are already looking forward to the next semester. Till this time – PRACTISE!
